The crop of talented first year players in the NBA is lead hands down by three players and they are Milwaukee Bucks’ Point Guard Brandon Jennings, Golden State Warriors Point Guard Stephan Curry, and the Sacramento Kings’ shooting guard Tyreke Evans. Many would like to go by the numbers and pick the Rookie of the year and if that is the criteria then Tyreke Evans would lead the pack. Overall performance along with how each member have contributed to their respective teams success is what we will take look at for each rookie.

Tyreke Evans

Evans should be called the Human Stat Stuffer because he is averaging 20 point per game, nearly 6 assist and 6 rebounds. They are great numbers and it is most certain that he would get Rookie Year from a statistical standpoint. Evans is more than that stat stuffer for the Kings because if you take him from the Kings they would lose many more games. He greatly improves the squad with his play but he is on a losing team and that definitely should be a major factor in picking the Rookie of the Year.

Stephan Curry

He is playing well within the Warriors high octane offense. Everyone had a question could he play point guard in the League and thus far he has worked out at the point guard position. He is averaging nearly 16 points and 5 assist per game. It is here I put a question mark on the numbers because he playing on team likes the Warriors. This squad will score because of their offense but the Warriors are not winning and if you take Curry away from the Warriors there is not much of drop off because they are many scorers on this team and not much else. The big scoring nights without getting wins in the win column hurts his chances of getting the Rookie of the Year.

Brandon Jennings

Mr. Double Nickel has shown that he is for real and the critics that thought he would be a problem child were wrong about this kid. He can flat out play and it is a great addition to the Milwaukee Bucks Jennings’ scoring numbers is down compared to Curry and Evans at nearly 15 points a game. He clearly able to get his teammates involved as dishes out 6 assist per game. Unlike Curry and Evans, Jennings is playing on winning team and his team has chance to make the playoffs. He is an important cog in the wheel that the Bucks will ride on all the way to the playoffs the Bucks go. If you take Jennings away from the Bucks then one will see this would possibly hurt their chances of reaching the post season.

Final Note

If it the Rookie of Year had to stand up right now it should be Jennings because he is playing well and he is on a winning team. His contribution is a significant part of the Bucks’ success. Evans would be second only because he is on a losing team. If you take Evans away from the Kings their level of play falls off. Stephan Curry is last only because his numbers are inflated because of the offense the Warriors play. Curry’s presence in the Kings’ lineup does not spell more victories because team play does not drop off if he did not play.
