Doc Rivers is worth a first round pick in 2015. I never thought I see a coach traded for a First Round pick. It may not help Boston meet their NBA Draft needs this season, but it is great way to help the Celtics’ future. Rivers is a great coach, but the Los Angeles Clippers does nothing without resigning Chris Paul. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce may be the next to leave the Boston Celtics, but Boston’s management has set the stakes too high. They are looking for another first round pick for Garnett. The Big Ticket is at the latter stages of his career and quite sure he will help few teams, but it is ridiculous to think he merits a first round pick if traded. The 2013 NBA Draft goes down on Thursday, June 27, 2013.
With the NBA Draft coming in three days, I ask myself what are the NBA draft needs of teams like Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks, and the Chicago Bulls. By meeting their NBA Draft needs, they will be able to improve their chances of defeating the 2013 NBA Champions, Miami Heat. The Pacers played the Heat to a 7 game series in the Eastern Conference. Many say they would have won the series with the Danny Granger in the lineup; however, I say the Pacers need a reliable backup point guard. You should expect the Pacers to grab a good power forward just in case David West decides to leave in the off-season. Indiana has the 23rd pick. A few mock drafts have UNC’s Reggie Bullock going with this pick; however, a point guard like Shane Larkin will be just what the Basketball Doctors’ ordered.
The New York Knicks on paper has a good team, but their pitfall has been getting the players to play well together. Therefore, Knicks’ NBA Draft needs should be looking for good backup point guard in the draft or a player that plays good perimeter defense. It would be a great help for the Knicks to do well in the 2013 NBA Draft. North Texas’ Tony Mitchell may be the forward that can play both ends of the floor. He has the tools to be a great perimeter defender. He can shoot ball, but his defense is what should have the Knicks interested in using their 24th pick on Mitchell.
Chicago Bulls will get Derrick Rose back, but the Bulls’ NBA Draft needs begin with finding a capable second scoring option. A backup center would not hurt the Bulls. If Rose is the same player before the injury, he will be able to get to the rim at will. The Bulls need a small forward to shoot from distance. Luol Deng can score; however, he is more mid-range shooter. Chicago has the 20th First Round pick. They will be able to use their 19th second round pick to find that shooter who is consistent from downtown or give the offense another offensive weapon. The Bulls need a good backup center behind Joakim Noah. Bulls should give a long look at Louisville Center Gorgui Dieng. He rebounds well. Dieng is a more than capable shot-blocker that can shoot the mid-range jump shot when needed.
