San Antonio Spurs Dominate NBA Finals Win NBA Title 4-1

San Antonio took care of business and clearly was a far better team in the NBA Finals. Miami Heat had no answer for a Spurs team that blew them out by double digits in three consecutive games. In Sunday’s 104-87 victory, the Spurs’ bench was impressive. Both Patty Mills and Manu Ginobili were great from behind the arc. Mills finished game with 17 points and was 5-8 from the behind the line. Ginobili scored 19 points as he connected on 3 of 6 attempts from distance. NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard contributed with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Everyone expected the NBA Finals to go the entire 7 games and for NBA Champions Spurs to finish off King James and the Heat, you have to ask what happened. You can point to better bench play by the Spurs, the great series played by Leonard, passing the ball and playing like they wanted it more. It did not help the Heat’s perimeter defense took a vacation after the Game 2 win. LeBron James finished Game 5 with 31 points and 10 rebounds. The rest of the Big Three could not find their shot just like in the previous two losses.

It has been said often that Leonard will be a star in the Association. He virtually took the reins and showed that Spurs’ future is safe in his hand as the young star of the team. He did almost anything that was asked of him. He scored, rebounded and played some defense when needed. He like many of his teammates played within the offense. He played well enough to capture his first NBA Finals MVP and his first NBA Championship ring.

However, you cannot mention the Spurs without mentioning their leader Tim Duncan. If he decides to retire, he will go out on top. It would be great end to a NBA career to possibly the best power forward ever. Duncan has been there for all of the 5 championships won by the Spurs’ organization. He played a solid NBA Finals series once again. The Big Fundamental hurt the Heat on the boards and his inside scoring could not be ignored by Miami.
