Their defeat of the 25th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs has shown why defense will be the cornerstone of any team that will be hoisting the BCS trophy in the air in victory. Alabama another great defensive team also of the SEC has shown their defense is the mainstay of their team.

LSU’s defense has already shutdown high-powered offensive attack of the Oregon Ducks. In Thursday night’s game, Tigers truly pushed around the Bulldogs. Tigers sacked the quarterback four times and held the Bulldogs to only 193 total yards. The Bulldogs managed two field goals for the game. Their 19-6 victory speaks due to such a impressive defensive performance
Jarrett Lee was impressive in game he picked apart the Bulldogs’ defense by completing 21-27 passes. Lee’s 19-yard touchdown pass to Rueben Randle would be the only touchdown scored in the game. Spencer Ware held the Tigers down in the ground game. He rushed for 107 yards on 22 carries.
LSU piled up 15 tackles for a loss. Defensive tackle Bennie Logan led the defensive unit with three and a half tackles for losses. LSU is make strong argument for great defense instead of great spread offense. Spread offense is the calling card for College Football, but there is stillroom for great defenses. SEC has some of the toughest defenses and it will be needed to stop teams such as Oklahoma Sooners if there is meeting in the BCS Championship.
Florida State Seminoles have much-improved defense and they will get a great test on Saturday when they face the 1st ranked Oklahoma Sooners. It will mean the Seminoles will need a great defensive effort to stop a Sooners team that blew them out last season.
