149 Pitches, 8 Walks, Jackson’s No Hitter Incredible
Stop me if you have heard this before, 149 pitches thrown, 8 walks issued, 1 error committed and the Tampa Bay Rays has no hits in a game once again this season. Former Rays’ pitcher Edwin Jackson now with the Arizona Diamondbacks held his former team hitless. He did it in an unusual fashion but he has a no hitter.
It seemed he would never pull off the no hitter because he would run out of gas from throwing too many pitches or maybe an ill-placed ball that the Rays would take advantage of and end Jackson’s no hitter bid. Jackson did not run out of gas and he pitched well enough to get his first no hitter.
Jackson becomes the second Arizona pitcher to throw a no-hitter and it was the second time this year that Rays were victim of no hitter. Along with his 8 walks, Jackson had 6 strikeouts and more than few scares in the game. Jackson’s 8 walks was one away from tying a record for a number of walks allowed when throwing a no hitter.
Jackson will need plenty of rest after throwing 149 pitches to get a no hitter. Arizona got their only run with LaRoche homer in the second inning. Jackson showed that no-hitter is a team effort. He was not overpowering but he did just enough to throw the 4th no hitter this season.
