The household name for the games played by teams from both leagues is Interleague play. Interleague play have given that what if factor for those who wondered which was the better league without the aide of a playoff or World Series.

Interleague play has provided New Yorkers the Subway series that actually count for something. It helps show the fans from Boston how they stack up against one of the best teams in the National League such as the Philadelphia Phillies.

For some, Interleague play is a headache due in part to scheduling. Many players and managers feel that easier Interleague schedules played by certain teams could affect the playoff schedule later in the season.

Interleague play has created some rivalry games that could only be played out in one own imagination. It has been hit with the fans since it existence. Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants had the honor of playing the first Interleague game on June 12, 1997.

Based on 2009 statistics, American league has won the most games with 1,673. Beyond the numbers it has been good for the fans that enjoy the game of baseball. The fans get to the ballpark when Interleague play is in their city. I know I would pay for a ticket to see the subway series take place or even see Red Sox take on the Phillies during the regular season. Baseball truly got it right 13 years ago when they brought Interleague play to the baseball fans.

The first stint of Interleague games were played in May, but fans should not fret any as second round of Interleague games will be June 11-27. There should be some interesting games played during Interleague play.
