I am not going to claim I know too much about hockey, but I do know Stanley Cup Champions when I see them. The Chicago Blackhawks are 2013 Stanley Cup Champions. The Blackhawks closed out a game six unlike the San Antonio Spurs did against the Miami Heat in the 2013 NBA Finals in the previous week. Okay, two goals in 17 seconds to win the Stanley Cup was the equivalent of Ray Allen hitting the game-tying shot in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. A miraculous finish for both sport teams except the Blackhawks’ 3-2 victory in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals earned them the Stanley Cup.
Blackhawks’ fans can thank Bryan Brickell and Dave Bolland for the parade that will happen or should happen to celebrate their second Stanley Cup Championship in four years. Becoming Stanley Cup Champions, it was not easy. Brickell tied the game with his goal. It seems both teams would be set and ready to play an overtime period, but Bolland was not having any parts of it. His Stanley Cup clinching goal sent the bench into a celebration and deflated the hopes of the Boston Bruins’ crowd and its players. A clutch situation had two players rise to the occasion.
Throughout the NHL Playoffs, Chicago forward Patrick Kane has been great. For his efforts, he earned the MVP trophy or to hockey fans it is known as the Conn Smythe Trophy. Chicago may have let everyone in on how well their season would go when they set an NHL record of going 24 games undefeated. Chicago finished the season with the best regular season record. A good regular season record does not always translate to great NHL Playoff success. Once again, you can look at the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs to better understand. A great regular season is only great regular season. It has been nearly 5 years since a team with the best record in the NHL Regular season won the Stanley Cup Championship. The Detroit Red Wings was the last team to accomplish the feat.
Chicago Blackhawks made their run in a shortened NHL regular season, but I am sure the fans and players do not care. Everyone had to skate the same number of games and do their best to achieve what the Blackhawks achieved Monday night. The Chicago Blackhawks are 2013 Stanley Cup Champions.
