Bama Blanks Tigers in Rematch Wins BCS Championship

From the Sporty Mouth of dev4life | On: Jan 10 2012

Alabama Crimson Tide is National Champions. Nick Saban became the first Head Coach to win three National Titles during the BCS era. The 21-0 victory was a testament to possibly the best defensive effort ever seen in a BCS Championship game. The LSU’s offense had no answer for Bama’s stifling defense. The dual threat that LSU QB Jordan Jefferson was supposed to bring to the game for LSU just did not happen.

What the Bama’s defense was able to do to the Tigers in the last night’s game is not supposed to happen to a number 1 ranked team. Tigers were held to 92 yards of total offense. Tigers with a great running game, the dual threat quarterback, but they are held under the century mark in yardage. In a word, the performance was quite remarkable. Alabama did not commit a turnover, and they had 384 yards of total offense. The MVP of the game should have been the kicker Jeremy Shelley; however, it went to starting quarterback AJ McCarron. McCarron was able to throw the ball down the field without committing turnovers. He finished the game with 234 passing yards and 125.5 QB Rating. Once again, Trent Richardson was held under 100 yards rushing, but LSU could not keep Richardson out of the end zone. Richardson rushed for 96 yards. His 34-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter was the only touchdown of the game.

The offense of LSU was overpowered, and it was impossible to execute. I would have never predicted a shutout, but it was a near-perfect game for Alabama. LSU should not hang their head, because there are very few teams that could overcome the effort put forth by Alabama. College Football fans who like great defense, they got just that, a great defensive game. It was the rematch everyone wanted; however, it did not play out quite like everyone expected. Bama is National Champs by avenging its only loss of the season with a shutout victory.
