St. John Red Storm Rains Down on No. 3 Duke

The number one stunner of games played on Sunday was the St. Johns Red Storm routed the number three-ranked Duke Blue Devils 93-78. Duke without their premier freshman point guard Kyrie Irving does not resemble a team that most people thought would go undefeated. In the game against the Red Storm, Duke turned the ball over, did not shoot well, and it was almost inevitable the blowout loss happened.

UNC Tar Heels Defeat North Carolina State 84-64

North Carolina Tar Heels thrashed the North Carolina State Wolfpack by the score 84-64. The game did not look much like a rival game Harrison Barnes had a career high of 25 points. The Tar Heels totally dominated the game in almost every facet of the game.

The Heels truly were Windex men as they clean the boards. When a team is able grab 53 rebounds and the opposing teams only manage 39 rebounds, you can understand why the blowout took place. It also did not help Tar Heels’ sophmore John Henson had a monster stat line with 16 points, 16 rebounds and 7 blocks.

Chicago Bulls defeats the Magic 99-90

Bulls are tearing up the competition thanks to Rose; with their win over the Magic, the Bulls have won 9 out of the last 11 games played. He is the catalyst to much of Chicago’s good fortune. Rose did not win all the games alone; in fact, The Magic had no answer for Rose’s teammate Luol Deng who scored 26 points.

Dwight Howard was amazing as he scored 40 points and grabbed 15 rebounds; however, the Bulls were the far superior team on Friday. Magic’s Jameer Nelson left early in the first period with a sore knee and he did not return. Magic proved once again that their defense is horrible.

UNC Tar Heels Gets Win Despite Slow Start

Miami played a great first half but it was the Tar Heels’ play in the second half that would win the game. Harrison Barnes did not get it going until the second half. Hurricanes managed to hold Barnes scoreless in the second half. It was Barnes 13 points in the second half and some cold shooting by the Hurricanes that would be costly.

Heels Dexter Strickland joined Barnes as the only two Tar Heel players to score in double figures with 12 point. He held it down in the first half while Miami’s defense shutdown Barnes in the first half. With Miami hot-shooting from behind the arc, it did not look good for UNC. Hurricanes finished with 13 three-point shots. The leading scorer for the Hurricanes was Guard Durand Scott with 18 points. Scott missed only one shot out of 5 attempts from downtown.

Green Bay Packers are NFC Champions

The Green Bay Packers are NFC Champions and they did just enough to defeat the Chicago Bears 21-14 to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. It was an entire team effort that fueled their victory. Aaron Rodgers was not the Super quarterback like in previous games but he did enough to put his team in a position to win the game.

Chicago Bears’ chances were dashed when Jay Cutler was unable to go in the second half due to a knee injury. Todd Collins was brought in briefly, but he was not effective against the Packers’ defense. It was the third string quarterback Caleb Hanie that led the Bears the rest of the way. Hanie did all he could as he led the Bears downfield to two scores; however, it would be his interception thrown to Sam Shields that would end the Bears’ hope of playing in the Super in Dallas.

NFC Championship 2011 Prediction

NFC Championship 2011 will have the Chicago Bears facing the Green Bay Packers. Bears’ Jay Cutler has the chance to lead his team to the Super Bowl in his first playoff appearance. He must not get too cocky and attempt to totally rely on his Rocket Arm and make bad throws into coverage as he did in the Regular Season. Cutler must continue his fine play, but it should be noted his wide receivers must hang on to the ball. Matt Forte may surprise defense with few catches out of the backfield.

College Athletes Should Get Paid

The University of Texas and ESPN 300 million dollars for 20 years deal is great for college sports; however, when will the NCAA committee change the rule regarding the pay for play or benefits and the college athlete. Many will say free education is enough of a reward for being able to throw a seventy yard bomb, run a 4.2 forty-yard dash or being able to put in the hoop like M.J.; however, I beg differ.

Packers and Steelers Are Winners in the NFL Playoffs

Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers were winners in Saturday’s games. Both are one win away from playing in the Super Bowl. The games were exciting to say the least.

Green Bay Packers are playing great football, and it is because of the fantastic play of Aaron Rodgers. Many thought Matt Ryan, and the Atlanta Falcons were virtually unbeatable at home, but the Packers not only defeated the Falcons they embarrassed them. The final score was 48-21. Rodgers numbers were quite impressive. He passed for 366 yards and 3 touchdowns; however, it was his accuracy that was amazing. Rodgers connected on 86 percent of the 36 passes he attempted. Packers had at least five wide receivers that had 70 or more receiving yards. The Packers stopped the Falcons’ run game, and forced Ryan to throw two turnovers. With the win, the Packers will face the winner of the Chicago Bears and the Seattle Seahawks.

Lakers Win 7th Consecutive Game

Los Angeles Lakers have picked it up. They have won seven consecutive games. Lakers defeated the New Jersey Nets by the score of 100-88. The duo of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol was too much for the Nets. Bryant scored 27 points, and Gasol had 20 points. Lamar Odom had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Lakers are winning when few weeks ago I could barely tell if this was the same team that won a championship last season. Nets tried to stay close in the game, but it was the Lakers who did not want any part of it. Brooks Lopez had a great game in a losing effort. Lopez dropped 35 points. He could barely miss as went 13 of 19 shooting.
